Denver Thanksgiving Weekend 2016

There is more than turkey and stuffing to look forward to this Thanksgiving weekend in Denver. Denver hosts a seemingly endless supply of fun events to kick off this holiday season. We guarantee you that by the end of Thanksgiving weekend this year, you will definitely be feeling some holiday cheer!

Mile High Turkey Trot – Thanksgiving Day at Washington Park
In its 43rd year, the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot (unitedwaydenver.org/turkey-trot) is a Thanksgiving tradition that draws more than 20,000 people to Denver’s beautiful Washington Park for a four-mile run/walk and community celebration each year. Support the Mile High United Way’s work in the community to improve the lives of children, families and individuals in need. Booth vendors will be in the Start and Finish Villages with merchandise to sell and free promo items to give out, including food, drink, and gift bags.
Small Business Saturday – Nov. 26th
On Saturday, November 26th, do your holiday shopping at local businesses! Neighborhood shopping centers such as Cherry Creek North, Tennyson St., Pearl St., South Broadway, and many more will celebrate Small Business Saturday, a nationwide event founded by American Express in 2010 to promote shopping at small businesses. Many stores around Denver will be serving food, drinks, and plenty of holiday fun for the whole family.
Blossom’s of Light – Nov. 25th – Jan. 1st at Denver Botanic Gardens
Denver Botanic Gardens is proud to host Blossom’s of Light, an annual family-friendly event that has become a tradition! This annual holiday lights extravaganza features some new elements, and includes the grand illuminated O’Fallon Perennial Walk and the Romantic Gardens.
Southwest Rink at Skyline Park – Nov. 22, 2016 – Feb. 14, 2017
During the holiday season, Skyline Park is converted into an outdoor skating rink to provide fun for all ages and to activate a vital space in the core of Downtown Denver. Besides the free skating, people can enjoy live entertainment, face painting, holiday movies, broomball, a photobooth and hot cocoa.
Downtown Denver Grand Illumination – 6pm Nov. 25th in Downtown Denver
As part of Downtown Denver’s Winter in the City program, Downtown Denver’s Grand Illumination event will light up, from Denver Union Station to the City and County Building at Civic Center Park. Following a countdown shortly after 6:30 p.m., Denver Union Station will be ablaze with brightly colored floodlights illuminating the historic structure in the heart of LoDo and its lighted tree in front. The lights stay on through the end of December.
