Grab your sunscreen and floaties, Colorado! We’ve chatted and compiled a list of some of our favorite lakes the Centennial State has to offer.

Cherry Creek State Park Reservoir
Okay, so maybe not technically a lake, but tried and true and located in Aurora, the Cherry Creek State Park Reservoir offers swimming (with a great beach!) as well as some other unique activities like model airplane flying, horseback riding, and a family shooting range. With 880 acres of reservoir, this local spot is also a popular area for sailing, paddle boarding, and fishing!

Guffey Gorge a.k.a Paradise Cove
This is the perfect spot for adventure-seekers and a fantastic place to cool off. If you’re feeling brave, there are spots to do a little cliff diving, too. But wait there’s more! Bring some outdoorsy friends and hike the Paradise Cove Swimming Hole Trail. It’s 1 mile long and leads to the cove for an extra dose of adventure.

Jackson Lake State Park
A quick drive from Denver, Jackson Lake State Park is on the west side of Morgan County, Colorado. Jackson Lake is ranked one of the “Top 15 Park Beaches” by Reserve America and is perfect for a picnic with the family and a day at the lake! It also tends to warm up quickly and there is a ton of room for boating, fishing, and jet-skiing.

Vallecito Lake
Located in Bayfield, Colorado, which is about 20 miles northeast of Durango, Vallecito Lake offers a great weekend getaway for a slew of water activities. With opportunities to hike and go horseback riding, plus the gorgeous location in a mountain valley, Vallecito Lake is definitely one to check out this summer if you’re looking to beat the heat! (Once you’re done enjoying the lake you can check out the Four Corners area, too!)

Have a great summertime splash this summer season, Colorado! Do you have a favorite place to swim or cool off?
